Frequently Asked Questions

HOW DO YOU STORE EMU OIL PRODUCTS?
If you buy a larger quantity, such as 1 Litre, you should store it in the fridge to help maintain freshness. Emu Oil will stay in a solid state when kept in the fridge. Emu Oil can also be kept frozen to keep it indefinitely. A smaller bottle can be filled and kept outside the fridge and refilled as needed.

DOES EMU OIL SEPARATE?
Emu Oil will fractionate into layers if left sitting for extended periods. This is called winterization. By shaking the bottle, it will then remix.  All layers of Emu Oil are beneficial, and as such, should be used for its full benefit.

WHAT IS THE SHELF LIFE?
The processing we do on the Emu Oil, gives it a shelf life of about 1 year. Shelf life is extended when high heat and sterilization is used. This is often done by RBD (Refined, Bleached, Deodorized) processing. We believe less processing is better to keep a premium product.

WHAT DO YOU FEED YOUR BIRDS?
We pride ourselves in being a farm uses the grain that we grow to feed the emus. The main ingredient in our ration is barley. The birds require a high energy diet for the climate we live in, on the prairies. The other components in the feed are alfalfa and a mineral mix that includes extra calcium for egg laying.

WHAT DO YOU DO FOR THE BIRDS IN WINTER WHEN IT IS SO COLD?
We house our birds in a barn with pens in the winter months. (Nov.-Mar.)  The rest of the year they have outside pens that allow them to forage and roam freely.
